Trump Administration presents Gaza Peace Plan to Arab Leaders

The administration of US President Donald Trump has proposed a 21-point peace plan to Arab leaders to end the war in Gaza in an effort to resume diplomacy after months of stalled negotiations.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff said on Wednesday he was hopeful, even confident, that progress could come within days, after President Donald Trump, US officials and regional leaders met at the Concordia Summit in New York.

The plan calls for the release of all hostages, a permanent ceasefire, Hamas-free governance of Gaza and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, a source familiar with the talks said, according to CNN.

Arab leaders have backed large parts of it but have sought amendments, including guarantees against annexation of the West Bank, maintaining the status quo in Jerusalem, increasing humanitarian aid and resolving Israeli settlements, regional diplomats told CNN.

The momentum is building after an Israeli attack in Doha that disrupted earlier indirect talks with Hamas. In meetings with Trump, Qatar offered to continue mediating if Israel guarantees it will not attack again.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for urgent negotiations.

European governments familiar with the plan said it could help curb Israeli annexation and bolster efforts to expand the Abraham Accords.

The leaders agreed to meet again with U.S. officials this week to flesh out the proposal, CNN reported.
