The United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump has entrusted his special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, with the task of ending the Ukrainian conflict within one hundred days.
According to reports, “reaching an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be much harder than Trump promised during his campaign when he stated he would end the conflict before taking office.”
Trump is determined to personally control the peace negotiations.
Kellogg’s former colleagues say he cannot be described as an independent figure and has never served as a diplomat, making it unlikely that he will be involved “in any real negotiations with Russia.”
On January 7th, Trump did not rule out the possibility that resolving the Ukrainian issue might take longer than 24 hours, the timeframe he set during his election campaign. However, Kellogg stated that he would like to meet the one-hundred-day deadline.
On January 21st, Trump told reporters that the U.S. could stop supplying weapons to Ukraine and reiterated his willingness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin previously stated that Moscow is open to dialogue on the Ukrainian conflict with the new U.S. administration, emphasizing the priority of addressing the root causes of the crisis. He confirmed that Russia is taking note of statements by Trump and his team regarding their willingness to renew contact and the need to do everything possible to prevent a Third World War, according to Russian media.
