US President-elect Donald Trump said he would discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump told a news conference at his Palm Beach golf club that he had seen horrific images of death and destruction from the war and that “it has to stop.”
He said Zelensky had approached him during the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
“He would like to see peace. He wants peace,” Trump said, adding that he had not invited the Ukrainian president to his inauguration.
He said he had had a “very good conversation” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the war in Gaza and repeated his threat that “all hell would break loose” if Hamas did not release the hostages by January 20, when Trump takes office.
