The United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump said yesterday that he believes the U.S. will eventually buy Greenland from Denmark, despite the fact that the country insists its overseas territory is not for sale.
“I believe we will get Greenland,” Trump told reporters during a trip on Air Force One from Las Vegas to Florida.
Speaking about relations with Canada, Trump said that the country “has been taking advantage of the U.S. for years,” but that he will not allow it.
He claims that the U.S. loses hundreds of millions of dollars annually due to trade deficits with Canada, while Canada conducts nearly 90 percent of its business with the U.S.
“I don’t want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars supporting a country unless that country is a state [of the U.S.]. And if it is a state, the people of Canada will pay much lower taxes,” Trump emphasized.
He said that Canadians would also “have no military problems, they would be much safer in every respect,” and added that he thinks unification with the U.S. would be “a great thing for Canada.”
Trump stated that he believes Canada should become one of the states of the U.S.
“Then they will get much better treatment, much better care, much lower taxes, and they will be much safer,” Trump concluded.
