U.S. President Donald Trump announced during an interview with Fox News that authorities have arrested a suspect in the murder of conservative commentator and influencer Charlie Kirk.

“I think I can say with a high degree of certainty that we have him,” Trump said when asked about the latest developments. He revealed that the suspect was identified after being reported by “someone very close to him” and that further details would be released later.

Praising law enforcement, Trump stated: “The local authorities did a great job, everyone cooperated. Everything worked out.” He noted that he was informed about the arrest just five minutes before the interview began, adding that the suspect is believed to be 28 or 29 years old.

Expressing deep personal grief, Trump said he hopes Kirk’s killer will face the death penalty. “Kirk was the best person and he did not deserve this. He was like a son to me,” the president said, describing him as “a brilliant guy who helped me with TikTok.”

Kirk was shot Wednesday night while addressing young people at the University of Utah. The attacker opened fire from approximately 200 yards away. Kirk later died from his injuries.
