US President Donald Trump said his patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin is running out, but he has stopped threatening new sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

During an interview with Fox News, when asked if his patience with Putin is running out, Trump replied in the affirmative. “He’s kind of running out, and fast,” he said.

The US president said he has had a good relationship with Putin for a long time, but expressed frustration over his failure to end the war.

“We’re going to have to be very, very strong,” the US president said.

Trump specified that sanctions on Russian banks and oil are an option, along with tariffs, but that European countries must also participate.

“But I’ve already done it. I’ve done a lot,” Trump stressed, noting that India, one of the largest buyers of Russian oil, faces a 50 percent tariff on exports to the US.

The US leader indicated that this is not easy to do and that tariffs cause discord with India.

“This is a much bigger problem for Europe than it is for us,” Trump said.
