At the end of the tunnel Karaula, whose construction was started in January 2015 and which is part of the future main road Sarajevo – Tuzla, light still can’t be seen but soon will be. Construction work on the tunnel have been completed, and the mechanical and electrical installations are taking place now.
The works on the tunnel should be finished by the end of June 2016. Then will follow the completion of the section Kladanj -Podpaklenik, the construction of two bridges ( in the length of 280 and 130 meters), and part of the route with a length of about 1,500 meters, which should be completed by the end of 2016.
This would end the fifty year old agony of generations of drivers and passengers who used the main road Tuzla – Sarajevo over the mountain pass Karaula, on the altitude of 910 meters. The traffic on this section of the road was especially dangerous in the winter period, and due to the inability of cleaning snow and ice it was often closed. The tunnel was constructed with incredible precision. Differences in the breakthrough teams from Olovo and Kladanj were differing in one centimeter.
Between 80 and 120 workers were engaged on breakthrough of the tunnel. This section will make closer the biggest cities of FB&H, Tuzla and Sarajevo, for 20 minutes of the ride, but the most important is that the new road will be much safer than the current one. Municipalities Olovo and Kladanj will be only ten minutes apart. Along with the main tunnel, which is 902 meters long, evacuation tunnel in the length of 460 meters is being constructed and, the total value of the works will be amounting to 25 million BAM.
