There is to be no merging of the two hospitals in Sarajevo until further notice, it was concluded on yesterday’s meeting on reform of health in the Sarajevo Canton.
The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković, Minister of Health of the Sarajevo Canton Zilha Ademaj, acting Director of the General Hospital Sead Bašić and the Director of Clinical Center University of Sarajevo Sebija Izetbegović, presidents of medical chambers of the Sarajevo Canton and the FB&H and the representatives of the Institute for Health Insurance of the Sarajevo Canton and the Institute for Public Health of the Sarajevo Canton.
Several conclusions were made. First, a constructive discussion was held and it was unanimously concluded that a comprehensive reform of health is necessary.
Furthermore, it was concluded that the work group formed by the Government of the FB&H has only been doing the analysis of situation until now and that the profession, primarily the Institute for Public Health of the Sarajevo Canton, will get involved in the entire reform.
President of the Steering Committee of the Medical Chamber of the Sarajevo Canton Dr. Dragan Stevanović said that it will be decided on the entire reform, and thereby on the possibility of merging the hospitals, after a comprehensive analysis. However, deadline for the conduction of analysis has not been defined yet and Stevanović expects the Minister Ademaj to call another meeting soon, where details would be discussed.
There are still no concrete recommendations on how to conduct the health reform. Stevanović said that it will take at least six months for the analysis of the situation and enactment of concrete measures.
Situation in the General Hospital has calmed down; the hospital is working in full capacity and it will remain working like that until decided otherwise.
