At today’s session, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina passed the Decision on calling and holding the Local Elections of 2024, which should be held on October 6.
Elections are being announced for 58 municipal councils in the Federation of BiH, 53 municipal assemblies in the Republika Srpska, 111 mayors of municipalities in BiH, 21 city councils in the Federation of BiH, 10 city assemblies in the Republika Srpska, 32 mayors in BiH and the Brčko District Assembly.
The CEC of BiH also adopted the Instruction on the deadlines and sequence of election activities for the 2024 Local Elections.
The Decision on closing the Central Voter List on May 7 at midnight was also adopted. According to the situation on that day, the total number of voters registered in the Central Voters’ Register is 3,406,088.
The members of the CEC of Bosnia and Herzegovina also passed a Conclusion on the determination of the technical revised text of the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As it was said, in March of this year, the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina passed the Decision by which it passed the Law on Amendments to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which were quite extensive and demanding.
In order to make it easier to read and interpret the provisions of the Election Law, it was necessary to incorporate those provisions into the already existing text of the Election Law, stated the CEC.
The President of the CEC of BiH, Irena Hadžiabdić, said that this will certainly help, noting that the Election Law of BiH has undergone 25 amendments and three technical corrections so far.
“It is very difficult to use the Electoral Law in the mass of amendments since 2001, in a situation where we have never received an official revised text that would be adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly,” said Hadžiabdić.
The CEC will hold a press conference at 1:00 p.m., which will be dedicated to the announcement and holding of local elections, Fena writes.
