The trade union consumer basket for August 2026 reached 3,810.70 BAM, according to the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the latest available data from the Federal Institute for Statistics, the average wage paid in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for June 2026 was 1,714 BAM, while the minimum wage, by the decision of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is 1,027 BAM.
The average wage covers 44.98% of the trade union consumer basket, while the minimum wage covers 26.95 %.
The calculation of the consumer basket took into account the average wage in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the minimum cost of living for a four-member family consisting of two adults and two children, one high school student and one primary school student.
Food constitutes the largest share of the basket, at 43.58 per cent. Education and culture make up 18.37 per cent of the total basket, housing and utilities 11.56 per cent, and clothing and footwear 10.50 per cent.
A total of 6.83 per cent goes to hygiene and health care, 5.25 per cent to household maintenance, while transportation accounts for 3.94 per cent.
The food category included prices for 86 products from three retail centres. Hygiene and healthcare calculated expenses for 10 items, while housing and utilities covered costs for six items.
Data from the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina showed that the average wage does not cover half of the estimated minimum monthly expenses for a four-member family.
