isa-begov-hamam-sarajevoEmployees of the Turkish Company “Erbu” are working these days on the demolition of the old ruined walls inside the Isa-Begova Hamam, knowns as the oldest Turkish city bath in Sarajevo with the signature of the famous Architect Josip Vancaš, as a part of a reconstruction project of this national monument in BiH.

This was confirmed to Fena by the Director of the Vakuf Directorate Senaid Zajimović, stressing that the works are being realized for a month already. They are now clearing the ground, or demolition of old partitions within the main walls of the building that are not able to withstand an upgrade in construction.

Around 10 employees are on the ground daily, who are realizing the first phase of this project.

“With dissatisfaction I have to say that there is a lot of garbage in this area. It seems to me that this was a space for its disposal. We even found some unexploded ordinances-two hand grenades. The building was abandoned and we made a bad estimate of the time required to remove the trash from this area’’, said Zajimović.

Already in talks is the second phase of works, which includes the assessment of the quantity and types of interior walls of the building set for demolition, while the third phase involves large concrete building interventions. The fourth phase involves the furnishing of the interior.

“Company Erbu has a deadline of 500 days, more precisely one year and a half to finish the works. We hope that it will finish on schedule, which means that until next year the reconstruction of the hamam should be finished’’, he said.

Since this is a national monument, regular control over the works is done by the Federal Institute for Protection of Monuments.

The Vakuf Directorate of Turkey, which is financing this hamam, allocated around two million and six hundred thousand KM.
