The current issues that Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is facing, as well as the plans for the future related to accession to the European Union (EU), were discussed yesterday at the meeting between Turkovic and Szijjarto. Peter Szijjarto handed over a donation of 40.000 PCR tests yesterday morning.
This was the second time that Peter Szijjarto officially visited our country in the last 11 months.
“It is important to mention that Hungary is a contact country for NATO in BiH in the period from 2019 to 2020, and the mandate has been extended for 2021 and 2022, respectively. At the same time, Hungary is working on transferring its experiences to BiH on the processes it has gone through on the path towards NATO integration, but also on the processes of joining the EU. Given that Hungary will take over the presidency of the Council of Europe for six months from May 21st this year, as well as the presidency of the Visegrad Group for one year, I would like to wish a lot of success to the officials of this country in their work, but also to the minister who will bear the greatest burden. I sincerely hope that this presidency will be marked by the implementation of the Sejdic-Finci verdict, ” Turkovic stated.
Finalization of the preparations for the signing of agreements on the prevention and fight against terrorism and crime, as well as the agreements in the field of culture, scientific cooperation, but also a memorandum on cooperation in the field of youth and education is in the process.
“Since Hungary is our contact country for NATO, the Council of Ministers of BiH, with the help of the Hungarian Ambassador and his colleagues from the United States of America (USA) and the NATO General who is present here, established a commission on cooperation with NATO and adopted the implementation of the BiH Reform Program for the last year. The adoption of these documents was supported by NATO and the Allies. It was stated that it is necessary to start the procedure of drafting a new Reform Program for BiH for the current year as soon as possible,” she said yesterday.
Szijjarto wanted to emphasize Hungary’s goodwill towards BiH.
“Hungary’s foreign policy will always focus on supporting the Western Balkans region. This region is under double pressure. These are mass migration and pandemics. The stronger the Western Balkans region and the stronger resistance it can offer to both, the safer and healthier we are. Now is not the time to just discuss support for the Western Balkans, but Brussels needs to do something concrete on this issue. We Hungarians provide concrete help, not just verbal. Today we brought 40.000 pieces of PCR tests that we have already delivered at the airport to both, the representatives of the federal government and the representatives of the entities. It is known that testing can slow down the infection process. We would like to be able to help you with vaccines as well. It is also clear that illegal migration increases the risk of a pandemic. Hungary is ready to send a unit of 15 members of the Border Police to help guard the borders. We support BiH’s efforts towards the EU,” Szijjarto noted, Klix.ba writes.
