With concrete preparations for the construction of the third departure gateway, the Tuzla International Airport marked its jubilee today, the 25th anniversary of the airport’s operations.

The ceremony was also attended by the delegation of the Government of Tuzla Canton led by Prime Minister Irfan Halilagić.

Exactly 25 years ago, visionaries recognized that the geographic position of theTuzla Airport and the demographic and natural potentials that surround it, had preconditions, with a rational approach of all entities in the Tuzla Canton, for the airport to become the backbone of the tourism and economic development of the Tuzla Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and beyond.

“We have already realized that vision to a considerable extent and have additionally upgraded it. Today, we can say that our strategic goal is to gradually increase the volume of traffic and reach one million passengers annually, and to be one of the regional leaders in air traffic and irreplaceable service to the citizens of this region.

It is also our goal that, in addition to passenger transport, we will also build cargo support for the faster development of the economy, which is oriented towards air transport,” said the Director of the Airport, Dževad Halilčević, emphasizing that MAT, until recently, was a military airport and that a huge amount of work has been done in order to transform into an international passenger airport.

The estimated value of the construction of the departure gate is about 1,060,000 KM, and its official opening can be expected in the second half of 2023.

The Tuzla Canton Prime Minister Irfan Halilagić congratulated the Airport authorities on today’s jubilee and wished them to get significantly closer to the goal of one million passengers per year until the next anniversary.
