Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia-Herzegovina Stasa Kosarac spoke in Sarajevo with Bosnian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bisera Turkovic on the problem of construction of a nuclear and radioactive waste landfill in Trgovska Gora mountain.
This meeting came after a working meeting organized on February 11th this year by Minister Kosarac with the entity ministers responsible for the environment, members of the parliamentary group “Green Club”, representatives of the Bosnian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Regulatory Agency, and heads of municipalities in the basin of the river Una.
Minister Kosarac informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH of the conclusions of the said working meeting. In this regard, Minister Kosarac requested the active involvement of the diplomatic and consular network of BiH in resolving the issue of construction of the disputed landfill on Trgovska Gora, which Minister Turkovic accepted.
Ministers Kosarac and Turkovic agreed that in the coming period they will focus on meetings and talks with the institutions of Croatia, as well as representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The interlocutors expressed the hope that the solution of this bilateral issue with Croatia would be reached through diplomatic channels, and said that it was absolutely unacceptable for a nuclear and radioactive waste landfill to be built on Trgovska Gora, in the immediate vicinity of the Bosnian border.
The meeting also discussed the signing of a memorandum between the two ministries, on the basis of which a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH would be included in BiH’s Permanent Mission to the EU.
It was emphasized that this is necessary given the important role of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH in the process of European integration.
It was emphasized that participation of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH in the Permanent Mission of BiH to the EU would contribute to a more efficient and effective flow of information towards domestic capacities, especially when it comes to CEFTA and EU integration.
