Two Parks in Sarajevo named after Safet Isovic and Kemal Monteno

Two parks in the Sarajevo municipality of Centar are named on Wednesday after prominent musicians Kemal Monteno and Safet Isovic, Avaz news portal reports.

At the site of the former Austrian House, where the European House of Culture and National Minorities is under construction, across from the Ciglane settlement, Mayor of the Sarajevo Center Municipality Nedzad Ajnadzic together with the Mayor of the Municipal Council Karolina Karacic, Councilor Jasmina Gazija and Adriana Monteno, the daughter of Kemal Monteno, with the discovery of two boards, formally completed the procedure for renaming these parks into “Kemal Monteno” and “Safet Isovic”.

The event was also attended by members of the Monteno family, as well as representatives of commissions of the Municipal Council and veterans’ associations.

“I am proud of this city, the municipality and the people who supported Kemal Monteno getting the park. As time goes on, I have more and more evidence of the importance of my father to this city, because even today his songs that are known by youth in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina,”said Adriana Monteno after the ceremony.

After Mayor Ajnadzic launched the initiative to rename these two parks, the citizens’ assemblies received full support and followed the remaining legal procedure.
