Two people were killed in a knife attack in Tel Aviv in the central part of Israel.

The number of those killed rose to two after one person died of his injuries, Israeli media reported.

One person was pronounced dead at Wolfson Hospital in Holon, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

It was previously reported that a 70-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in the attack, while a 30-year-old and a 60-year-old man were seriously injured, and a 26-year-old suffered minor injuries.

In a statement from the Israeli police, it is stated that the attacker is a resident of the West Bank and is believed to be a ‘Palestinian militant’.

“The attacker has been neutralized, and the search for other suspects is underway in Holon, the neighborhood where the attack took place,” the statement said.

Tensions in the region further escalated after Hamas political chief Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on Wednesday. While Hamas and Iran have blamed Israel for the killing, Tel Aviv has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.

The assassination came a day after Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
