The United States (U.S.) special envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, warned Hezbollah not to get involved in the war between Iran and Israel.

Barrack, who is also the U.S. ambassador to Turkey, is on his first official visit to Beirut, where he met with senior Lebanese officials, including the speaker of parliament Nabih Berri, an ally of Hezbollah.

“I can say on behalf of President Donald Trump… that would be a very, very, very bad decision,“ Barrack said after the meeting with Berri, responding to a question about the U.S. position in the event that the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, gets involved in the war.

What did Hezbollah say?

When the conflict broke out on Friday, Hezbollah condemned the Israeli attacks on Iran, but did not announce that it intends to intervene in favor of Tehran.

The group suffered heavy losses in last year‘s war with Israel, and the conflict ended with a ceasefire agreement in November.

Despite the truce, Israel has continued attacks on Lebanon, stating it will keep striking until Hezbollah is disarmed. In an Israeli attack on Kfar Juz in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, two people were killed, while in another attack in Barish, one person was wounded, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Israeli authorities stated that two Hezbollah members were killed in the attacks.
