A United Kingdom (UK) photographer Paul Lowe passed away on Saturday at the age of 61 in Los Angeles.

The VII Academy shared the news of his death on their Facebook page:

“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Paul Lowe, whose brilliant life was cut short in Los Angeles, California on Saturday. Paul was a courageous and beloved comrade, and a deeply devoted father and husband. The loss is shocking and overwhelming, and our hearts go out to his wife and family,” the post read.

The organizers of the MESS International Theatre Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) also paid tribute to Lowe on Facebook, remembering him as a friend and recipient of the award for contributions to preserving the culture of remembrance.

Lowe, a UK photojournalist, has documented and witnessed many historic moments, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and the war in BiH.

During the siege of Sarajevo, Lowe captured the daily life and struggle for survival of the city’s residents. Over the years, his photographs of the besieged city have been featured in exhibitions worldwide.

Lowe’s images tell a dual story of Sarajevo under siege: on one side, a narrative of suffering and four years of uncertainty; on the other, a testament to remarkable courage, creativity, and resilience.
