As part of its bilateral contribution to NATO’s project for building defense capacities, the United Kingdom (UK) yesterday delivered key firefighting equipment and organized medical training for the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH).

As explained in the statement of the UK Embassy in BiH, it is specialized equipment for firefighting from helicopters, which is used for lifting a water bucket for aerial firefighting, and a medical training course, “Tactical Combat Casualty Care.”

“The equipment will significantly improve the ability of the AFBiH to respond to forest fires, which represent an increasing threat in the region due to climate change. This ability, known as Military Assistance to Civil Authorities, enables the AFBiH to support civil emergency services in protecting lives, property, and the environment,” emphasized the UK Embassy.

Within the course of Tactical Combat Casualty Care, UK military medical experts are training members of the AFBiH in advanced life-saving techniques adapted to combat and emergency situations.

This training improves operational readiness and is aligned with NATO standards, thereby strengthening interoperability and resilience.

The UK Embassy emphasizes that these initiatives reflect the commitment of the UK to supporting defense reform and capacity building in BiH.

“They also contribute to the broader goals of the UK in promoting stability, strengthening regional security, and supporting the role of NATO as a defensive alliance,” they added.

Although some political actors in BiH have expressed concern about NATO due to historical associations, these projects show NATO’s contemporary focus on peace, readiness, and humanitarian support, they stressed by the UK Embassy.

In the statement, it was conveyed that the UK remains a reliable partner in supporting BiH to build a modern, capable, and efficient defense force.
