dodik04-600x400After a meeting in Belgrade with the President and Prime Minister of Serbia Tomislav Nikolić and Aleksandar Vučić, representatives of Serbs from BiH confirmed that the referendum on the Day of Republika Srpska, scheduled for September 25, will be held.

Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Željka Cvijanović said after the meeting that representatives of Serbia repeated that Serbia will not interfere, but that during the meeting they also showed understanding for all events in the region.

“This is our decision in Republika Srpska and leadership of all political parties in the RS reached a decision on holding the referendum. National Assembly was the place where the decision was reached and we absolutely understand the importance of this referendum. We see no reason for all the fuss about it in BiH over the past few weeks,” Cvijanović said.

President of RS Milorad Dodik said that the meeting was creative and responsible and that authorities of Serbia informed them about their attitudes.

“They repeated that they will not interfere, they will neither support or dispute the decisions we make, but that it is on us to assess all dangers and problems that the decisions we reach might eventually result in,” Dodik said.

Member of the BiH Presidency Mladen Ivanić stated that January 9 was and will remain an important holiday in Republika Srpska and that it will certainly be marked in the future.

“We will see some very complex situation in the coming days. I think we need some kind of intellect, which is reflected in the fact that Sarajevo must accept the fact that Serbs care about January 9 and we will find a way to pass this by the Constitutional Court of BiH – to preserve the dignity of the Serb nation in BiH,” Ivanić stated.
