Ukraine claims Russia launched a record 728 Drones Overnight

Ukraine said on Wednesday that Russia had carried out a record-breaking attack overnight, launching 728 drones.

According to a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force, Ukrainian air defenses shot down 718 of the 728 drones, as well as seven of the 13 missiles that were fired at the ground.

“The main direction of the attack is Volyn, the city of Lutsk,” the statement added.

Russian authorities have not yet commented on the attack.

Volyn Governor Ivan Rudnytsky posted on Telegram that about 50 drones and five missiles had been detected over the northwestern region, which borders Belarus and Poland.

Rudnytsky said that firefighting efforts were underway at the warehouses of a company, as well as at a garage complex.

“There are no reports of injuries or deaths so far,” he added.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties,” the State Emergency Service of Ukraine later announced on Telegram.

Meanwhile, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced on the X network that Polish and allied aircraft were shot down over Polish airspace during the attack on neighboring Ukraine.

It added that the aircraft had returned to bases “due to the reduced threat level.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the X network that activities were underway to eliminate the consequences of the attack and that damage had also been recorded in other parts of the country, including the capital Kiev.

“This is a powerful attack and it is happening at a time when so many efforts are being made to achieve peace, to establish a ceasefire, and only Russia continues to reject all these efforts.

This is another proof of the need for sanctions, strong sanctions against the oil that has been financing the Russian war machine for more than three years. And secondary sanctions against those who buy this oil and thereby sponsor the killings,” Zelensky said.

Ukrainian authorities had previously announced that Russia launched 539 drones into Ukraine last Friday.
