Police in Sarajevo have taken security measures after receiving reports of explosive devices allegedly placed in two shopping malls in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with death threats to the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović.
As confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, the reports were received via e-mail and relate to the Sarajevo City Center and the Alta shopping mall.
The field is proceeding in accordance with applicable protocols, and the competent services are checking the authenticity of the reports and the security condition of the facilities.
Police officers are securing the locations and are currently not allowing visitors to enter while the check is ongoing.
The threatening email, as reported by local media, states that a kilogram of explosives was placed in the SCC, and twice as much with a remote detonator in Alta. It also states, among other things, that “after the action, President Denis Bećirović will also be killed”.
Such situations are a frequent occurrence in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, given that similar reports have been recorded in previous years, relating to shopping malls, educational institutions and state institutions.
In previous cases, threats have occasionally caused interruptions in classes and schools to switch to an online model of work, and the competent institutions have adopted special procedures for dealing with crisis situations of this type.
