The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, held a meeting with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in the Bellevue presidential palace in Berlin today.

Bećirović expressed gratitude to FR Germany for the overall and continuous assistance it provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that FR Germany has proven itself countless times as a true friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He stated that the two countries cooperate excellently on the bilateral and multilateral level, and that they have close political, economic and cultural cooperation.

Bećirović emphasized that FR Germany is the single largest foreign trade partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a total exchange of goods of almost 5.9 billion BAM in 2025.

He pointed out that German companies are among the most important investors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the sectors of the automotive industry, metal processing industry, energy and production, and that export-oriented companies connected to the German market are one of the key drivers of economic development and employment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He particularly emphasized the importance of further strengthening of economic ties, attracting new investments, integration of Bosnian companies into European value chains, as well as cooperation in the field of green transition, renewable energy sources and digital transformation of the economy. He also called on German companies to increase investments in strategic economic projects.

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency reiterated that full membership in the European Union (EU) and the NATO alliance are the strategic foreign policy goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He expressed gratitude to FR Germany for continuous engagement and strong support for the European and Euro-Atlantic path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović particularly emphasized the importance of full implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which represents the foundation of peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region.

He pointed out that it is extremely important that the newly elected high representative has a full mandate to implement the Dayton Peace Agreement.

He warned that the continuous attacks by the authorities of the Republika Srpska entity on the institution of the high representative, as well as on the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, represent a serious threat to peace and security, and carry the risk of wider destabilization of the region.

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency pointed out the importance of intensifying cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense and security. He particularly emphasized the significant support of FR Germany through the NATO Defense Capacity Building (DCBI) program, which significantly contributed to the improvement of the readiness of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Also, Bećirović thanked the Bundestag for the decision to extend the mandate of the German contingent in the EUFOR Althea operation, stressing that the presence of EUFOR is an important factor in preserving security and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović emphasized the importance of the numerous Bosnian diaspora in FR Germany, which, according to the latest data, numbers almost 250,000 citizens. He emphasized that the Bosnian diaspora is well integrated into German society and that it represents an important bond between the two countries.

Bećirović also emphasized the importance of the role of the Federal Republic of Germany in the European integration processes of the Western Balkans, including the joint efforts of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of France aimed at accelerating the integration of the countries of the region into the EU.

The President of FR Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier strongly emphasized the importance of protecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the role and mandate of the High Representative. He confirmed FR Germany’s commitment to preserving peace and stability in the Western Balkans, and reiterated his full support for the European and Euro-Atlantic future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced the Cabinet of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović.
