Government of FBiH allocates 300,000 BAM for the Elimination of Damage caused by the Fire at the Uborak Landfill

Today, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Information of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism on the need for urgent intervention in the elimination of damage caused as a result of the fire at the Regional Landfill Uborak – Buđevci, which is managed by JP Deponija d.o.o. Mostar.

The Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is responsible for providing intervention financial resources in the amount of 300,000 KM for the purpose of using air tractors for fire extinguishing, insurance, remediation and cleaning of fire sites, prevention of the occurrence of new fires, training and maintenance of locations for transshipment of collected waste, and transportation and disposal of collected waste to other landfills, as well as other unforeseen costs incurred on the basis of activities necessary to carry out the orders of the Civil Protection Headquarters of the City of Mostar.

The City of Mostar undertakes to ensure the implementation of the emergency measures in question, and to submit the necessary documentation to the Fund, as well as regular reports on the implementation of the measures.

The Information states, among other things, that the City of Mostar informed the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism about the extent of the damage and the need for immediate action.

According to the information provided, today during the morning hours there was a new fire in the part of the landfill where car tires are located, which caused additional material damage and further threatened the normal functioning of the landfill.

Also, the Information stated that the resulting circumstances represent a serious risk for the environment, public health and the smooth functioning of the waste management system in the area of ​​the City of Mostar and the wider area that uses this landfill.

In addition to direct damage to the infrastructure and equipment, additional costs arise as a result of the implementation of measures ordered by the Civil Protection Headquarters of the City of Mostar, including fire extinguishing, use of air tractors, securing and cleaning of fire areas, implementation of measures to prevent new fires, organization of temporary transshipment of waste, its transport and disposal at other locations, as well as activities necessary to re-establish the functionality of the landfill, announced the FBiH Government Office for Public Relations.
