Ukraine set Red Lines for Peace Negotiations

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha said that as part of the peace agreement, Russia should not be given the ability to veto Ukraine’s NATO membership.

Sibiha noted that Ukraine will not accept peace at any cost and presented the red lines in the peace talks, describing them as “clear and unchangeable”.

“First of all, we will not agree to recognize any temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine as Russian,” he said.

Sibiha added that Ukraine will not agree to any restrictions on the structure or size of its armed forces, a reduction in its defense industry, or restrictions on military assistance from allies and the presence of allied troops.

“Third, we will not accept any restrictions on Ukraine’s sovereignty, our domestic or foreign policy, including the choice of alliances and blocs we want to join,” he stressed.

He said that there is currently no consensus among the allies regarding Ukraine’s NATO membership, but stated that Kiev will continue to actively work towards achieving it.

“However, Russia or any other country does not and will not have the right to veto our choice,” he added.

Today, US Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News that the war in Ukraine will not end “anytime soon,” while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Russia and Ukraine are now “closer, but still far” from a peace agreement.
