“Ukraine’s Membership Negotiations are politically motivated”, Orban says

Hungary believes that the negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU are politically motivated, as there are numerous uncertainties, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said.

He told the German group “Funke” that Hungary does not agree with that process, but that it will not block it and that, nevertheless, it supports the start of negotiations with Kiev.

“It is not about declaring ‘for’ or ‘against’ EU membership. However, first we need to find out what the consequences will be of accepting a country that is at war and whose borders are not defined in practice. What will be the consequences of accepting such a large country by EU agriculture? We are now starting negotiations without clarity on these issues, which is not good. This is a purely politically motivated process,” Orban said.

TASS reminds that all 27 EU members have agreed on the date of the start of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, which will begin today.
