UN is deeply concerned about another potential Humanitarian Situation in Bosnia

The United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina is concerned about the development of the situation with migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in BiH.

The United Nations recognizes the efforts that people, communities, and authorities have made at all levels to respond to the needs of these vulnerable groups. At the same time, we recognize that effective responses to multiple challenges, be it a pandemic or the management of mixed movements, are based on solidarity, coordination, and cooperation.

According to the statement, the UN is deeply concerned about another potential humanitarian situation, which is developing in some parts of the country due to the lack of shelter for several thousand migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

“They are currently exposed to low temperatures and bad weather conditions, without access to basic services. In addition, they are still exposed to many of the risks associated with the COVID 19 virus. With this in mind, we call on the authorities to urgently take their lead, in a timely and coordinated manner.

Rapid action is needed to address these urgent needs. But equally, attention must be paid to joint decisions and policies that will deliver a dignified, long-term solution focused on human rights,” according to a United Nations statement on the worrying development of the situation with migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in BiH.
