university-clinical-center-tuzlaTuzla Canton is the leading canton in FBiH according to the number of young people and children who suffer from cancer. One third of the diseased people come from this area. With the reconstruction of the ward for hematology and oncology of the University Clinical Center Tuzla, diseased children will have better treatment conditions.

Children most often suffer from leukemia, brain tumor and other solid tumors. On average, 20 children in the Tuzla Canton develop cancer annually.

“The lowest percentage of healing is in the cases of severe forms of leukemia, but in cases of some malign tumors and lymph nodes the percentage of healing is relatively high, between 80 and 90 percent. However, it all depends on the type of the disease,” said Edin Husarić from the Clinic for Children Diseases of the University Clinical Center Tuzla.

This hospital will in the future offer not only diagnostic services, but also therapy. With joint efforts, parents of the diseased children, the management of UCC Tuzla, local government and businessmen raised over 100.000 BAM and renovated the space in accordance with all standards.

“Opening of this ward is our long-time desire. We have been trying to implement this project for ten years, not only for us but also because of all the children from the Tuzla Canton, which is the leading canton in the FBiH according to the number of diseased children,” said Amra Saračević from the Association of Parents of the Diseased Children PIPOL Tuzla.

“Today we have a modern ward. However, it is my wish that it is not so frequently visited,” said Bahrudin Hadžiefendić, Minister of Health of the Tuzla Canton.

The renovated space is multifunctional. It has five patient rooms, two bathrooms, and a playroom for children, all aimed at facilitating the children’s fight with the severe diseases.
