yugoslaviaIt all happened in September 1980.

When in “Dva jarca”, part of a grand Mostar hotel “Ruza”, registrar Jelena Zurovac asked newlyweds Svetlana Kitic (21) and Blaz Sliskovic (22) are they accepting each other as a wife and husband, and they enthusiastically said “I do”, a big sporting love was crowned with marriage.

Thus, Svetlana and Blaz Sliskovic, thus proving that all those who thought that their relationship is only youthful foolishness that seriously threatens to undermine the two sports careers, were wrong.

Celebration, which started immediately after the official part, lasted until the crack of dawn, and there was, according to some assessments, unseen in Mostar. Some of them calculated that it cost more than 50 old millions and there were about 500 guests from “prominent” people to the workers at the Velez stadium.

Naturally, there were mostly Svetlana and Blaz’s peers, friends from childhood and, of course, athletes.

So the honor to be the made of honor went to the future club colleague of Svetlana Sliskovic Jasna Merdan and captain Enver Maric was the best man.

However, they did not last long in the “serious” clothes, and they quickly changed to one of the characteristics of their generation: jeans, T-shirts and sneakers. A little surprise for attendees was that they appeared dressed exactly the same.

wedding2After sporting “wedding of the year”, as many called the wedding, the newlyweds will live in Blaz’s family house.

It was also a surprise that they did not go to the honeymoon. Top sport requires a lot of sacrifice, and each day can be hardly compensated. Therefore, they needed to train. She with handball players of Lokomotiva at the sports center on Bijeli brijeg, and he a hundred meters below, in the stadium of Velez under Bijeli brijeg.

In only few days, Svetlana needed to help to her new club “Lokomotiva” and Blaz to his “Velez”.
