US Ambassador Michael Murphy, together with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Alexander Casanofi, is scheduled to hold a meeting today with representatives of parliamentary parties on the Southern Interconnection.
Representatives of most parliamentary parties in the House of Representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, except for the HDZ, have been invited to the meeting.
It is still not known who among those invited has confirmed their attendance, nor is it clear on what basis the US diplomats selected the guests.
The project to build the Southern Gas Interconnection has been on hold for some time, despite the fact that BiH desperately needs it to reduce its dependence on Russian gas.
It is also important to the US, which is why they have entered into an open verbal conflict with HDZ leader Dragan Čović. Čović is demanding that the company that will deal with gas distribution be established in Herzegovina because he does not want “someone from Sarajevo to turn off gas in Posušje”.
The US Embassy in BiH reacted sharply to his exclusivity, saying that this is beneficial to Russia, BHRT writes.
