Building the capacity of institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and improving readiness to respond to all security challenges is a key priority of the BiH Security Ministry, BiH Security Minister Selmo Cikotic said during today’s meeting with NATO Commander in Sarajevo Brigadier General Eric Folkestad.

He emphasized, at the same time, that the support and continuation of partnership relations with international organizations, and especially with NATO, is very important for achieving that goal.

Cooperation between the BiH Ministry of Security and NATO was especially important during the response to natural and other disasters, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, the BiH Ministry of Security said.

During the meeting, NATO’s commitment to continue supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina in security sector reform in order to improve the security of BiH citizens, but also to meet the conditions on the road to the EU and Euro-Atlantic integration, was emphasized.

The exercise of the protection and rescue services and the Armed Forces of BiH was discussed at the end of the month in Mostar, where the NICS system will be used, the application which facilitates the coordination and communication of rescue services in the field.

The system, used by protection and rescue services in BiH and the region, was created as one of the joint co-operation projects with NATO, the statement said.
