US Embassy: The IC will continue to use the tools to protect the Functionality of BiH Institutions

The U.S. Embassy responded immediately after High Representative Christian Schmidt’s decision to impose a decision on election financing, welcoming the move.

They said that such a move is in the function of protecting democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They also indicated that they support the decision to secure funds for all future elections.

“We also welcome the High Representative’s amendments to the BiH Institutional Financing Act and the BiH Election Law, which will help ensure that election financing is no longer held hostage by malicious political actors,” the US Embassy said.

They lamented that irresponsible leaders have decided not to respect the fundamental rights of BiH citizens in this democracy by using the electoral process for political bargaining.

“Periodic, free and fair elections are a guarantee of Dayton and a fundamental right guaranteed in the BiH Constitution. The international community will continue to use the tools at its disposal to protect the integrity and functionality of both Dayton and BiH institutions,” the US said.

They concluded that politicians who threaten the integrity and functionality of institutions will be held accountable.
