US State Dpt: Accusations of Genocide against Israel at the ICJ are unfounded

A spokesman for the US State Department said that the United States of America (US) maintains its position that the accusations of genocide against Israel at the International Court of Justice are unfounded.

A State Department spokesman said the US recognizes the ICJ’s “vital role in the peaceful resolution of disputes”, noting that the Biden administration has “consistently made clear that Israel must take all possible steps to minimize harm to civilians, increase the flow of humanitarian aid and address with dehumanizing rhetoric”.

“We continue to believe that the allegations of genocide are baseless and note that the court in its judgment did not make a finding of genocide or call for a ceasefire and that it called for the unconditional, immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas,” the spokesman said in a written response to Anadolu Agency.

He added that the court’s ruling is also in line with “our view that Israel has the right to take measures to ensure that the terrorist attacks of October 7 cannot be repeated.”

It said the US would continue to monitor the court proceedings as the case unfolded.
