USA Embassy in B&H and Swiss Embassy in B&H handed over a donation to the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces of B&H for the purpose of conducting inspections of ammunition and mines.
“Donation consists of four prefabricated objects, generators and other related equipments that NATO forces and USA used in Kosovo. In B&H exists a large number of ammunition that is in warehouse, about 24.000 tons, of which 17.000 tons obsolete”, said the Head of the Joint Staff of Armed Forces of B&H, general-major Anto Jeleč.
This donation represents a direct support to strengthen capacity of Armed Forces in B&H to continue the work in the storage of ammunition.
He stated that Armed forces of B&H will achieve its goals until the end of 2015, specifically a hundred percent control according to NATO standards will be performed.
Charge d’Affairs of USA Embassy in B&H Nicolas Hill highlighted that it is very important for B&H to get rid of old weapons and ammunition.
The Swiss Ambassador in B&H Andre Schaller stated that this donation represents international efforts to support B&H Armed Forces to ensure hazardous materials.
“Huge stocks of ammunition and dangerous substances pose danger for citizens of B&H, but also for the citizens of other countries if the ammunition come in wrong hands”, explained Schaller.
