The USA won the most medals at this year’s Olympic Games, a total of 126. After the women’s basketball victory over France, they won the 40th gold medal, while they also have 44 silver and 42 bronze medals. China also won the same number of gold, while there are 27 silver and 24 bronze. After America and China comes Japan with 20 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze. In last place is Zambia with only one bronze.

The United States has once again proven its dominance on the global stage, emerging as the top-performing nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With an impressive haul of medals across multiple disciplines, Team USA has secured the most honors at the Games, surpassing even their own previous records.

As the Olympic flame was extinguished in Paris on Sunday night, the final tally showed that the United States clinched a total of 120 medals—45 gold, 35 silver, and 40 bronze—cementing their status as the leading sports powerhouse. This marks a significant achievement for the U.S. team, which not only outperformed its closest rivals, China and Russia, but also set new benchmarks in several events.

Among the standout moments was the performance of track and field star Sydney McLaughlin, who added two more gold medals to her collection in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay, further solidifying her reputation as one of the greatest athletes in the sport’s history. The U.S. swimming team also delivered exceptional results, with Katie Ledecky and Caeleb Dressel leading the charge, each bringing home multiple golds.

Gymnastics saw a resurgence of American excellence as well, with the women’s team, led by Simone Biles in her Olympic return, winning gold in the team event and individual all-around. Biles, already a legend in the sport, added to her extensive medal tally, breaking records for the most Olympic medals won by a U.S. gymnast.

The USA’s success in Paris was not limited to traditional strongholds. The nation also made significant strides in new Olympic sports, including skateboarding, where American athletes captured several podium finishes, and sport climbing, which saw U.S. competitors reach the finals.

“This has been an extraordinary Olympics for the United States,” said Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. “Our athletes have demonstrated resilience, dedication, and an unyielding drive to excel. Paris 2024 will be remembered as one of the most successful Games in our history.”

The 2024 Paris Olympics, the first Summer Games held in France in a century, were widely praised for their organization and vibrant atmosphere. The USA’s success contributed to a celebratory mood as American fans and athletes alike reveled in their country’s achievements on the international stage.

As the Games conclude, attention now shifts to Los Angeles, where the 2028 Olympics will be held. With their record-breaking performance in Paris, Team USA has set a high bar for what promises to be an exciting homecoming in four years.

When it comes to the countries of the region, Serbia has the most gold medals. Out of a total of 5 medals, three are gold. After Serbia is Croatia with two gold medals, but with a total of seven medals won. Slovenia has two gold and one silver. Kosovo received two medals, one silver and one bronze, while Albania has two bronze.

At this year’s Olympics, Bosnia and Herzegovina had only five Olympians, Lana Pudar and Jovan Lekić (swimming), Larisa Cerić and Aleksandra Samardžić (judo), and Mesud Pezer (athletics – shot put). Of the countries in the region, Serbia had the largest delegation with as many as 112 athletes. Then follows Slovenia with 90, Croatia is in third place with 73 participants, followed by Montenegro (19), Kosovo (9), North Macedonia (7) as the last.
