Valentin Inzko Calls on BiH Leaders to Urgently Solve Problems

Valentin 1The High Representative to BiH Valentin Inzko calls on BiH politicians to urgently resolve the basic problems of citizens of our country two weeks before the accession of Croatia to the EU.

“I believe that the attempts to portray the protests as ethnically motivated are only an excuse to create obstacles instead of doing hard work for which they are paid’’, said Inzko.

He said that the worst thing the political establishment could do is to misrepresent the protests in the country.

This will further encourage public dissatisfaction that already exists between citizens and the politicians’’, said Inzko in an interview for ‘Nezavisne Novine’.

On the question of how to restore the confidence of citizens, considering the fact that some believe their safety is endangered in Sarajevo and that the protests are politically orchestrated, while others reject this and argue that there are no safety barriers for the continuation of work of BiH institutions in Sarajevo, the High Representative to BiH said:

“I fully understand the subjective fears of people who were blocked on Tuesday in the institution building. I spoke to many of them that night. But the issue can be resolved by the appropriate agencies to review security arrangements that are currently in force. This should not be an obstacle for elected officials to return to work. I wish to thank Minister Radončić for his proactive leadership in the last days and I fully agree with his assessment that the conditions exist for a smooth operation of officials and institutions. It is clear that representatives should have freedom of movement like citizens in order to freely carry out their duties. This is a basic civil right that should be respected in parallel to the right to protest. Unfortunately, some politicians deliberately the events of Thursday evening as ethnically motivated protests in order to try to get cheap political points and avoid resolving the real issues’’, concluded Inzko.
