The High Representative of the International Community in BiH Valentin Inzko handed over a donation today of 10.000 KM for the reconstruction of the Orthodox church in Mostar.

Inzko said that Serbs in in Mostar are now the minority, but that they could be a “diamond on a crown” and that without them the city on the Neretva would not be what it is.

He said that in Mostar there is room for all that that bridges and religious organizations should be built.

Emphasizing that he likes to support religious communities because religion is important, Inzko said that religious communities should cooperate.

“I have been a donator of the Orthodox Theological Faculty in Belgrade since 1986, and have donated to the nuns of the Carmelite order in Sarajevo and to the Ferhadija mosque in Banja Luka, so it is important for me that the Serbian Orthodox Church receives a donation’’, said Inzko.

The rebuilding of the Church should be completed this year, as long as the financial capability is at the same level.

For the first phase of renovation that includes construction work around eight million KM is necessary, while for the complete renovation around 15 million KM is necessary.

The Orthodox Church in Mostar was one of the biggest and most beautiful in the city on the Neretva, and it was mined and destroyed to the ground in June 1992.
