World Environment Day: Food donated to SOS Children’s Village Sarajevo

SOSAs a part of marking the World Environment Day, yesterday, a food donation was given to in SOS Children’s Village Sarajevo. The food was collected by Mercator and Megamix, foundation ‘Pomozi.ba’ as a part of the action of United Nations Environment Program ‘Share Food’.

BiH capital got the honour to host a series of events on the occasion marking the World Environment Day for the region of Europe and the program of the event will be last from 3 to 5 June. The organisation of the entire event o marking the World Environment Day is the United Nations Environment Program, BiH Government and numerous local partners and sponsors.

On that occasion, more than 2 tons of food were donated to SOS Children’s Village Sarajevo.

Director of UNEP for Europe Jan Dusik expressed his satisfaction with successful implementation of the project and with cooperation with partners who participated in this project.

Representative of Pomozi.ba Foundation Elvir Karović said that the cooperation with SOS Children’s Village Sarajevo will be continued in the future as well.

‘We are glad to be a part of this project, and as a part of the action ‘Share food’, all donations were collected in very short time’, said Karović.

PR manager of Mercator BiH Indira Hodžić noted that the cooperation of Mercator and SOS Children’s Village Sarajevo lasts for several years, and added that Mercator has helped the village in many ways.

‘This donation is a response to the call of the UNEP, and we’ll continue to cooperate with SOS Children’s Village in future as well’, said Hodžić.

Every year on 5 June, people throughout the world mark World Environment Day. Hundreds of thousands of activities aimed to improve the environment and provide a better future for the planet take place in almost every country throughout the world.

The main message of the marking the World Environment Day in Sarajevo is ‘‘Because we care: Let’s Share”. The components are contained in three aspects of ideas about sharing around which all activities are concentrated: Share food, share information, share knowledge.

The message reflects the concept of sharing as a universal answer to the global challenges of today and reflects the tradition of BiH and Sarajevo that includes helping fellow citizens, family and neighbours, as well as foreigners, with the greatest care and sharing  their meals with those who need it.
