Victims of Crime Honored by Laying Flowers at the Memorial in Ahmići

Ahmići Anniversary oslobodjenje.baBy laying flowers on the memorial of the Shahids – Arabic for “martyrs” – at Donja Mosque, yesterday’s ceremony, which marked the 22nd anniversary of the killing of 116 Bosniak civilians in the village of Ahmići, has come to an end.

Before laying flowers and visiting the memorial, a tawhid – a religious prayer – for the shahids of Ahmići and Bosnia and Herzegovina was performed in Gornja Mosque. The attendees were addressed by the Deputy, Reis-ul-ulema Husejin ef. Smajić, who stated that it was honorable to be Bosniak today in Ahmići, and pray Fatiha for all shahids.

“It is honorable to be now in this beautiful place of Ahmići, where we prayed Fatiha for the shahids. It is honorable to walk proudly around the world and be Bosnian, European, and Muslim of the honorable country of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I’d like to think we are gathered here today for other reasons, but our destiny is such. We, BH Muslims, have never – during our existence – been offered to choose from one, two, or three good things. We were always offered projections, and we chose the better evil out of the two”, said ef. Smajić.

He added that on this day in 1993, events that were accompanied by shahids – along with their spilled blood – were and is still evident in Ahmići, respectively.

“Those who have given their lives for their country are not dead; they are alive, and they are the proudest creatures that have lived on Earth. Our gathering here symbolizes the victory of Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who have retained their homeland and their passports, and are proudly going out into the world. They are the people who – by preserving Islam – granted victory to so many victims in this region”, concluded ef. Smajić.

Following the ceremony in Gornja Mosque, flowers – from national, cantonal, and municipal representatives, as well as NGO’s, veteran associations, youth associations, and other individuals – were laid at the shahids’ memorial, and all of the victims of the crime, which occurred in Ahmići, have been honored.
