The EU remains ready to negotiate with the US administration on the sweeping import tariffs announced by President Donald Trump last week, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
She added that Brussels is also ready to take countermeasures.
Von der Leyen said Norway is part of the EU’s single market and will remain in it.
Norway is not an EU member, although it is part of the bloc’s single market, and wants to avoid being caught up in a trade war between the US and the EU.
Trump announced that a 20 percent tariff would be imposed on imports from EU countries.
