The upcoming expected admission of Kosovo to the Council of Europe caused a wave of indignation in Serbia. At the end of the week, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic did not rule out that his country would withdraw from the Council of Europe in that case.
“We will see if Serbia (in the case of Kosovo’s admission) will remain in the Council of Europe or not,” Vucic explained, without giving further details.
However, by accepting the Franco-German plan for the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina and the framework agreement from Ohrid, Vucic committed himself that Serbia would not prevent the admission of Kosovo to international institutions.
Kosovo only submitted a request for admission to the Council of Europe in 2022, and already then caused Belgrade’s displeasure.
The Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for Political Affairs and Democracy will deal with the report of former Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis on Kosovo on Wednesday.
Negotiations on the normalization of relations led by the European Union (EU) have been ongoing since 2011, Klix.ba reports.
