Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that he will not shorten his term, but will resign from the position of President of the Republic, as stated in the Serbian Constitution.

Vučić said that the procedure stipulates that after a resignation, presidential elections must be held within 90 days, and that the function and powers of the president of the state are assumed by the Speaker of the National Assembly.

“I will resign because that is what the Constitution says. And then we will go, we will see if we go to the parliamentary elections, and in 90 days to the presidential elections. There is no great philosophy,” Vučić told reporters in China.

Responding to the statement that his statement yesterday that he might resign caused a great storm, especially in the Sarajevo and Zagreb media, Vučić said that they always get excited without even studying the context.

“But I’m glad, it’s always good for me when I see how much the Zagreb, part of the Sarajevo and Podgorica media, without reading, listening or understanding the context, rejoices over it because it shows how much good I’m doing for my people,” Vučić said.
