Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that Serbia remains on the European path, but assessed that it does not actually have the support of any major power, emphasizing that Belgrade expected major progress in relations from the new American administration, but that did not happen either.
Speaking at a regular annual conference for representatives of the diplomatic and consular network, Vučić said that Serbia could not feel the expected progress in relations with the United States – neither when it comes to tariffs, nor sanctions on the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), a company majority owned by Russia.
“When we were in difficulty, we did not receive this support from other major powers, neither in the East, nor in the European Union. Any of them could have said – we are here with you, we are here for you. No one did that, everyone had their own additional reasons for pressure, expecting even more from Serbia, demanding a lot, but giving nothing,” Vučić complained, Hina reports.
In May of this year, the President of Serbia tried to get closer to the new American administration, expecting to participate in a gala dinner in Florida within the framework of the Republican National Committee, but the Serbian delegation’s participation was canceled. Pro-government media announced at the time that he fell ill during his stay in the USA, and that after consultation with doctors it was decided to return to Serbia.
Speaking to the ambassadors, Vučić said, among other things, that they must represent the state policy that Kosovo is part of Serbia, assessing that “regional and world factors” have started a new wave of recognition of Kosovo’s independence, which is defined in the preamble of the national constitution as an inalienable part of Serbia.
“Just so you know, whatever they tell you, they invoke whatever they want, neither Pristina, nor the European Union, nor the United States of America respect any agreement, even the ones they imposed on us. For us, Kosovo and Metohija is part of Serbia, that’s how it was and that’s how it will be,” said Vučić.
He stressed that Serbia’s goals are to preserve peace and stability, fight for territorial integrity and accelerate economic activities. Speaking about the economy, Vučić said that Serbia must strengthen its presence in Asia, Africa and South and Central America, and especially strengthen its embassy in China.
In the context of regional relations, he said that “many things are happening” in terms of armament and the creation of military alliances, referring to the cooperation between Kosovo, Albania and Croatia.
“Why is there so much armament of the Republic of Croatia? A constant, permanent campaign against the Republic of Serbia and against the Serbian people and all representatives of Serbia?”, Vučić asked, stating that all the countries in the region are either in NATO or on the NATO path, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Vučić assessed that troops are being amassed in the region of Serbia in order to protect the eastern flank in a possible conflict with the Russian Federation.
“It is our job and that of all those involved in politics to preserve the peace and to understand well what they are doing to us, but to react to it calmly, calmly and patiently,” emphasized Vučić, assessing that Serbia needs “a century of peace, stability and security” for its citizens.
“That is our first goal – preserving peace and stability,” said Vučić.
