Vucko, the official mascot of the Winter Olympic Games held in Sarajevo in 1984, celebrated his 38th birthday today by walking through the city and socializing with the citizens.
Aldin Smajkan, marketing manager at the Cantonal Public Company ZOI’84, invited citizens to visit the Olympic mountains of Bjelasnica and Igman in order for Sarajevo to maintain its Olympic spirit even after 38 years.
“We want to tell the younger generations, what the Olympics is and what it used to look like,” he pointed out.
Smajkan emphasized that on the occasion of the anniversary celebration, they organized a number of interesting contents, and that, among other things, Bjelašnica today offers skiers a 50 percent discount on ski passes.
He added that in cooperation with the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton, the City of Sarajevo and local governments, they also provided free skating on Skenderija, as well as a free visit to the Olympic Museum of BiH.
Smajkan emphasized that they also organized a series of events at Igman Mountain, including training for visitors in Nordic skiing.
Vucko was created by the Slovenian painter Joze Trobec from Kranj, and he was chosen among numerous proposals, more precisely 836. In the media, advertisements and videos, Vucko shouted “Sarajevoooooooo”.
