Health Situation radiosarajevo.baUnusually high air temperatures for this time of the year are a fertile soil for appearance of viruses and flus, and experts recommend that the population takes care about food and clothing.

In these “spring in January” situations, people are advised to use fresh fruits and vegetables and C vitamin, and chronic patients are recommended to use their therapy regularly and reduce physical activity.

According to the data of the Institute for Emergency Help of the Sarajevo Canton, an increased number of cases of viruses and flus has not been recorded, and their patients are usually chronic patients with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension (increased blood pressure), as well as neurological patients.

Family medicine services also record sporadic cases of viroses usual for this time of the year and within the average limits.

Spokesperson of the Public Institution Health Center of Sarajevo Canton Arman Šarkić said that flu usually appears in reinforced form in late January and in February, and they currently record sporadic cases of viroses accompanied by high body temperature and respiratory tract issues, which is usual for this time of year.

Experts note that vaccination is the only efficient protection against flu and urge the citizens, especially working age population, to vaccinate.

Between 5,000 and 6,000 doses out of 11,000 free doses of vaccines against virus of flu distributed in the Sarajevo Canton for this season have been used so far.

Vaccination is still ongoing in all nine health centers and belonging localities and people can be vaccinated until the emergence of epidemic, since the organism needs a certain period of time to create immunity. The most zealous ones in the vaccination process are, this year as well, the risky population groups, especially those older than 65 years and chronic patients.

According to prognosis, a fall in temperatures is expected during the weekend. Morning temperatures should amount to between -4 and 1 degree. Light snow is expected in Bosnia, and light rain in Herzegovina.
