What is the Process of Brdo-Brijuni and what is the Significance for BiH?

13321169_1775801349323208_1579254263_oThe Presidency of BiH is hosting the meeting of leaders of Brdo-Brijuni process, which is taking place this weekend, on the 28th and 29th of May.

The meeting, besides the members of Presidency of BiH and the initiators of the Brdo-Brijuni process, presidents of Croatia and Slovenia, will also be attended by permanent members of the Process – leaders of Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia.

President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, is honorary guest of this year’s meeting of leaders of the Brdo-Brijuni process, and members of Presidency of BiH met with him on Saturday, the 28th of May 2016, in the afternoon hours.

The process of Brdo-Brijuni was started 3 years ago, in 2013, by Slovenia and Croatia in order to further stabilize conditions in the South East Europe through regional cooperation and solving of opened issues.

Starting of initiatives was contributed with realization of the necessity of strengthening the political dialogue, the establishment of mutual trust among countries in the region and to resolve opened bilateral and regional issues.

The initiative provides that presidents of countries of South East Europe gather once a year with the guest of honor from one of the leading EU countries, which thus becomes a participant in the dialogue itself.

The first meeting was held in July 2013 at Brdo near Kranj. The guest of honor was French President Francois Hollande. A year later, the meeting was held in Dubrovnik, and guest of honor was the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The third meeting took place in the summer of 2015 in the Montenegrin resort of Budva, and the meeting after in  Zagreb which was held in November. Then the guests of honor were: US Vice President Joe Biden, European Council President Donald Tusk and Austrian President Heinz Fischer.

The meeting was attended by members of the Presidency of BiH Dragan Covic, Bakir Izetbegovic and Mladen Ivanic, President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic, President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic, President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga and President of Albania Bujar Nishani.

Today, on the 29th of May 2016, will be held plenary meeting of the leaders of Brdo-Brijuni process, as well as press conferences.
