Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Bakir Izetbegovic exchanged opinions on the situation in BiH with Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg and ambassadors of the members of the “Big Four”. They noted that BiH made significant steps in the process of rapprochement to Euro-Atlantic integrations.
Izetbegovic noted that our country made a large progress in the past three years, in spite of all challenges and resistances.
He also noted that the Presidency of BiH paid special attention and gave a special incentive to all processes that referred to integrations, and that strategic documents including the Strategy of Foreign Policy of BiH for the period 2018-2023, the Review of Defense and the Plan of Improvement and Modernization of the Armed Forces of BiH for the period 2017-2027 were adopted by the consensus.
Izetbegovic informed Stoltenberg about current realization of activities that refer to the activation of the Action Plan for Membership.
Izetbegovic stated that BiH can become a stable and prosperous European state in the following 10 years – but it needs a strong support on that path.
He emphasized that the political relations and practical cooperation of our country with NATO is on a very high level. He recalled that BiH is continuously participating in peacekeeping and observation missions of the UN. Therefore, 60 members of the Armed Forces of BiH are deployed in Afghanistan within the Mission “Decisive Support”, and another five members are in the observatory missions of UN in Congo and Mali.
Izetbegovic also met with the ambassadors of the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy, members of the “Big Four” in the headquarters of NATO in Brussels.
