What will happen with Issue of the iconic “Estrada”?

The municipality of Stari Grad called on the authorities to take over the issue of the iconic Sarajevo pub “Estrada”, which can be potentially dangerous for citizens, and which is not within their authority.

It is important to note that the dilapidated residential and business building “Estrada”, which is located opposite the Cumurija bridge, is a mockery in the very center of the city, and threatens to endanger the lives of citizens as well as the surrounding buildings and property in case it collapses.

In order to warn the citizens of the danger of collapse, the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad put up warning tapes on several occasions, and the competent municipal inspection acted within its competences, demanding that the owner of the building remove the danger.

The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo does not have the authority to decide independently on this issue, and, as they say, acting on the request for a building permit submitted by the investor, whose intention is to build a business facility-hotel on this location, forwarded the complete file to the competent action of the Federal Ministry of Spatial Planning.

“The competent authority is obliged to resolve this issue because otherwise it will bear responsibility for the consequences that may arise from the collapse of the building and the damage it may cause,” they explained.

Namely, the “Estrada” facility was known before the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) as a cult meeting place of the Sarajevo and former Yugoslav music scene, and according to the building permit application submitted by the investor, a hotel should be built on this space. The municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo believes that any solution would be better than the current situation and the potential danger that citizens face every day.
