For the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, when buying food, the most important thing is the price, which was stated by 64 percent of respondents, followed by food safety 54 percent, and taste 44 percent, according to the results of the Eurobarometer survey on food safety in which 1,003 respondents participated.

The price of food was the most important for EU citizens, 54 percent said so, in second place, with 51 percent of answers, was their taste, while food safety and the geographical origin of food received 46 percent of answers each, announced the Food Safety Agency of BiH.

A total of 69 percent of respondents in Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that they are personally interested in the topic of food safety, 31 percent of them gave a negative answer. The approximate result is also at the EU level, where 70 percent of respondents answered that they are personally interested in food safety.

Respondents from Bosnia and Herzegovina are most worried about the topics – poisoning by food or drink contaminated with bacteria, viruses or parasites, 37 percent, genetically modified ingredients in food or drink 33 percent and additives such as colors, preservatives or flavor enhancers in food or drink 32 percent.

Head of the Communication and Partnership Department at the European Food Safety Agency, Barbara Galani, said that cooperation in the field of communication with partners in EU countries and pre-accession countries benefits from the generation of insights through social surveys, such as the Eurobarometer.

“We can better understand the concerns and needs of citizens, and make our communication more efficient. This cooperation is already bearing fruit within the campaigns that we implement together, and serves as an input for our national partners in direct communication with their citizens,” she pointed out.
