The incumbent president of the State Court, Ranko Debevec, has been invited to present his work program today as the only candidate for this position, it was said during the first day of the session of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC).
The President of the Council, Halil Lagumdžija, said during his address to the media that the Interview Commission conducted an interview with Debevec and that he is the only candidate for the President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He added that after the discussion, a session of the Sub-Council was held, and that the candidate – Debevec, was proposed to present his work program at the Council tomorrow and that after that the election of the President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina would be decided.
Lagumdžija also referred to the resolution of cases of corruption and organized crime and said that he cannot be satisfied until there is a sufficient number of indictments and a greater number of convictions.
“You know that the focus of the public, the judiciary and the Council is to create the most efficient possible system of processing cases of organized crime and corruption, and in this context we will ask the chief prosecutors to periodically submit a more detailed report to us, to discuss it and in the context of the discussion to adopt certain measures,” explained Lagumdžija.
During the discussion on starting the procedure for electing new members of the Council, the proposal to choose the gender and ethnic structure of the new members by lottery was rejected, as well as the voted proposal to keep the same structure.
President Lagumdžija said that he hoped that the new Law on the HJPC would amend the regulations so that situations do not arise where the persons of same ethnicity and gender are always elected from the same institutions.
“I think that the lottery was introduced in order to avoid this kind of occurence” said Lagumdžija.
